Alpaca Fiesta 2024, the eighth edition of the world’s most important event related to Alpaca, will take place from October 21st to 26th in the radiant city of Arequipa, located in southern Peru. The event is expected to attract more than 5,000 attendees, including breeders, designers, textile producers, artisans, and experts from the national and international alpaca industry. Representatives from over 15 countries will also be present, interested in this platform for promoting and marketing alpaca fiber and its derived products.

The event is organized by the International Alpaca Association (AIA), a non-profit private organization founded in 1984 in the city of Arequipa, and by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ), an entity attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru (MINCETUR). Alpaca Fiesta is held every three years, and this edition aims to integrate all segments of the alpaca production chain to highlight the ancestral heritage and the millennial legacy of our alpaca.

Additionally, for the first time, the 27th edition of Peru Moda Deco will be held in person, as it decentralizes, and Arequipa welcomes this historic edition of the important fashion, design, craftsmanship, and decoration event, utilizing local raw materials such as alpaca fiber and cotton.

This international event, the most significant in the alpaca ecosystem, coincides with the commemoration of the International Year of Camelids, declared by the United Nations, thus highlighting the valuable role that South American camelids play in the economy, culture, and daily life of Andean highland communities.

“This new version of Alpaca Fiesta, the first in-person post-pandemic edition, carries a special commitment to the sustainability of the alpaca production chain in a significant year due to the UN declaration. We are focused on fostering exchange and collaboration among all chain actors to promote responsible breeding practices, animal welfare, and environmental preservation, respecting the Andean worldview and preserving our millennial traditions,” said Jessica Rodríguez, President of Alpaca Fiesta 2024.

Alpaca Fiesta will include activities across the entire alpaca value chain, divided into five components: farming, commercial, fashion, academic, and cultural. Over the six days of the event, there will be visits to factories, alpaca breeders, commercial exhibitions, business meetings, fashion shows by emerging and established national and international brands, a young fashion creators’ contest, an international academic forum, a national alpaca and llama competition, a South American camelid exhibition, a regional gastronomic exhibition, folk dances, and musical performances.

Alpaca Fiesta 2024 is solidified as the key event for the alpaca production chain and a unique opportunity to celebrate Peru’s cultural, gastronomic, and natural richness.
